With ICS4BOINIC ALPHA6 Preview, they now have working WiFi, CDMA and BlueTooth. They have also added Google Tools, etc. Sound and Camera are still not working, as well as 3g/4g, but I expect they will get these working soon. There is a Featured Video to the left that shows how to install and run ICS4Bionic Alpha 6. Take a look to see if you want to dive in. Meanwhile, take a look at the screen shots below and have fun!

Well, a lot has happened since my last post. Thanks to @DHacker29, we now have ICS4BIONIC Alpha 3 Preview (source here). Can’t use SD-Card yet, no radios, camera, etc. Just look and feel preview. The Alpha 3 is the first really stable (graphics and force-closes are gone) version.

If you want step-by-step instructions for installing this on your Bionic, click read more below. Make sure you use SafeStrap from Hash of Codes here before you begin. This is only a preview folks, so don’t expect your phone to actually work after you flash this ROM (thus, the use of SafeStrap).

These instructions assume that you have already rooted your Droid Bionic.

Here are the steps, directly from RootzWiki:

READ COMPLETELY. NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR PHONE!

If you are uncomfortable with rooting, or flashing ROMs, then you probably shouldn’t do this to your phone. If you brick it and can’t get it back, you probably won’t get a new phone.

Perform a nandroid backup to completely back up your phone in its current working state.

Uninstall other bootstrap from your phone (i.e. Bionic Bootstrap).

Download and install SafeStrap from Hash of Codes here.

Open SafeStrap app. on phone and click Install Recovery.

Download ICS4BIONIC Alpha 3 from RootzWiki here and save to SD Card ext.

Reboot phone and hit menu when you see the SafeStrap start-up screen (do so within 10 seconds or boot will continue).

Make a backup (always better safe, than sorry). In non-safe mode (Safe System is: DISABLED at the top), this backs up your current system just in case.

Click the Safe Boot Menu (near the bottom) and toggle safe mode. This will copy all of your user files for later.

Make sure it says Safe System is: Enabled at the top.

Wipe Data/Factory Reset.

Format /system under Mounts menu.

Clear Cache

Under Advanced Menu, wipe Dalvik.

Go back to main menu and choose Install zip from SD Card.

Click Choose zip from SD Card.

Select sd card ext and choose the file you downloaded before you booted (something like ICS4BIONIC_Alpha3.zip).

Click install to confirm.

When menu returns, go to main menu and choose reboot.

Enjoy tooling around in ICS on your Bionic.

When you are finished tooling around and want to go back to using your phone, just power down, then power up and hit menu to enter SafeStrap recovery. At the main menu, simply go to the Safe System Menu and toggle Safe System. When this is complete, the text at the top should say Safe System is: Disabled. Once you see that, just reboot. You should be back to the way your phone was before step 6 above.

Pretty great progress so far. Can’t wait to see working radios and other items. Keep an eye on this forum for updates from @Dhacker29.

Well, for our first rumor mill post, I hear that some of our favorite developers are at the stage of booting Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) for the Droid Bionic. I must say, it has me salivating because I own one of these!

The only non-native port I’ve seen so far is one for the Samsung Galaxy IIs that seemed to disable all radios, so it had a long way to go to actually be useful. It looked really nice though and had the full feature set of ICS, just no way to update contacts, use wi-fi, or make a call.

I can’t wait to see what the Th3ory guys do with ICS! Keep up the good work guys.
