Well, a lot has happened since my last post. Thanks to @DHacker29, we now have ICS4BIONIC Alpha 3 Preview (source here). Can’t use SD-Card yet, no radios, camera, etc. Just look and feel preview. The Alpha 3 is the first really stable (graphics and force-closes are gone) version.
If you want step-by-step instructions for installing this on your Bionic, click read more below. Make sure you use SafeStrap from Hash of Codes here before you begin. This is only a preview folks, so don’t expect your phone to actually work after you flash this ROM (thus, the use of SafeStrap).
These instructions assume that you have already rooted your Droid Bionic.
Here are the steps, directly from RootzWiki:
READ COMPLETELY. NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR PHONE!
If you are uncomfortable with rooting, or flashing ROMs, then you probably shouldn’t do this to your phone. If you brick it and can’t get it back, you probably won’t get a new phone.
- Perform a nandroid backup to completely back up your phone in its current working state.
- Uninstall other bootstrap from your phone (i.e. Bionic Bootstrap).
- Download and install SafeStrap from Hash of Codes here.
- Open SafeStrap app. on phone and click Install Recovery.
- Download ICS4BIONIC Alpha 3 from RootzWiki here and save to SD Card ext.
- Reboot phone and hit menu when you see the SafeStrap start-up screen (do so within 10 seconds or boot will continue).
- Make a backup (always better safe, than sorry). In non-safe mode (Safe System is: DISABLED at the top), this backs up your current system just in case.
- Click the Safe Boot Menu (near the bottom) and toggle safe mode. This will copy all of your user files for later.
- Make sure it says Safe System is: Enabled at the top.
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
- Format /system under Mounts menu.
- Clear Cache
- Under Advanced Menu, wipe Dalvik.
- Go back to main menu and choose Install zip from SD Card.
- Click Choose zip from SD Card.
- Select sd card ext and choose the file you downloaded before you booted (something like ICS4BIONIC_Alpha3.zip).
- Click install to confirm.
- When menu returns, go to main menu and choose reboot.
- Enjoy tooling around in ICS on your Bionic.
